April 2008: Happy Birthday, Big Ben!
Today
marks the 150th anniversary of the casting of the Great Bell at Whitechapel
Bell Foundry and the official launch of our heritage project. Big Ben
is the ultimate London story,"an East-Ender done good"! Hailing
from Whitechapel, he (quite literally) rose to the highest place in
Parliament, a position he has held for close to 150 years. Big Ben was
recently voted London's favourite landmark, and we must agree!
14th
March 2008: WOOHOO!
Today
we received notification that our project has been funded by the Heritage
Lottery Fund! Once the paperwork is in place, we can begin the project
as planned!
18th December 2007: Fingers Crossed!
We submitted a 101-page grant
application to the Heritage Lottery Fund "Your Heritage" grants
programme. Now we must wait (a bit anxiously) for their decision....
Fingers crossed.
